MarcEdit update

So, MarcEdit has been updated. There are now two installers. A 32-bit installer and a 64-bit installer. These are found at:

32-bit Installer: MarcEdit_Setup.msi

64-bit Installer: MarcEdit_Setup64.msi

If you have a 64-bit system, I recommend uninstalling MarcEdit and downloading the 64-bit installer. If you don’t, MarcEdit will update itself this time, using the 32-bit installer. If you are looking for the scripting fix for 64-bit systems (i.e., the com object being exposed correctly) — this won’t fix it. You need to install using the 64-bit installer. However, after this install — regardless of how you update, the next update will use the build appropriate to your system. So, if you just auto-update this time, the next update will use the 64-bit installer if you were on a 64-bit system. Also, regardless of the installer you use, the MarcEdit application itself will run as either a 64 or 32 bit native app within the .NET framework. The only reason for the different installer builds is so that the COM objects are exposed correctly. Most people don’t realize it, but 64-bit systems of windows have two registries — a 32 and a 64 bit hives. The installer determines which hive the object is registered under.

Anyway — if you have any trouble, either send me a message or ping the list. I’ll be keeping tracking the list closely since this build represents a lot of under the hood changes.

Thanks,

–TR
