One of the fun things about moving my content off the Oregon State network and onto my own domain is that I get to use my own statistics package and it’s allowing me to gather a little more granularity in my statistics, which is fun. I always find it interesting looking at where MarcEdit is being used because it changes from month to month. For June 2013, breaking down the 167,000+ requests against the MarcEdit update service, you see the following break down:
Top 25 Countries by usage:
- United States
- France
- China
- Canada
- India
- Poland
- Great Britain
- Australia
- Germany
- Turkey
- Sweden
- Ukraine
- Italy
- Hong Kong
- Luxembourg
- Malaysia
- Japan
- New Zealand
- Egypt
- Taiwan
- Sudan
- Bangladesh
- Saudi Arabia
- South Africa
- Ecuador
The top 10 countries represent most of the usage (with the United State users representing about 3/4 of the user community. That means however, that in June, ~42,000 requests came from outside the United States…something I’m definitely intrigued by. I’ve never done it, but at some point in the future, I’d like to find a good location to take the MarcEdit workshops I periodically with give and take it on the road outside of the United States. But for now, I’m just glad to see that it appears that the transition from the Oregon State infrastructure to my own is going well — since I plan on finishing the migration and shutting down the Oregon State site sometime in the next month or so.
