I wanted to give folks a heads up that I’ll be making significant changes to the delimited text translator. Over the past year, the ability to read Excel data in Windows has been a source of significant troubleshooting. MarcEdit utilizes a Windows Component added when Excel is installed, and over the past year, updates and bug fixes have made this component difficult to rely on. So, I’m making some changes. I’ve update the code so that the tool no longer relies on Excel to read its data. This means that some of the main issues that I have with Excel
- Predictive typing changing strings to numbers
- Connection errors
- Bit type errors
These should go away. I’m including for a period the ability to turn on the legacy functionality — but I’m not sure how long that will be available.
