  • What a cookie 🙂

Well, another year, another great monster cookie ride. The Salem Bike club does such a frantastic job of putting this ride on. The volunteers make sure that that the oranges, bananas, and peanut butter stays flowing and the then course itself is gorgous. Its a mostly flat course that takes you past lots of farm…

  • And so the cycling season begins….

Whoo!  The summer cycling season for me is starting up.  Its 7 AM, about 45 degrees outside…sunny and I’m getting ready to head out the door to ride in the Salem Bike Club’s Monster Cookie event.  This is a really cool metric century ride that goes through the Oregon Wine country.  Its a well done event…

  • Snow in March

Oregon obviously isn’t known for its snow — especially on the Valley floor.  But I get up today to ride my bike to work and what do I see….SNOW.  Not a lot, but enough and in March.  How odd is that.  Anyway, got go hope on my bike.   –Terry

  • Morning commute

What a morning…two flats, one giant rip in my rear tire…thankfully I wasn’t too far from home and was able to gimp my bike back to my house. What a morning! Actually, one of the flats was my fault. When I changed the first tire, I was in a hurry and simply yanked off the…

  • How demoralizing

The wind this morning was downright brutal.  No only did it take me longer than normal to get into work — but the gusts were strong enough to nearly knock me off my bike.  I spent the better half of my ride out of my seat and leaning against the wind to keep my balance. …

  • Some people….

I was riding my bike home this evening and I’m not quite sure what gets into some people.  When I first started riding between Independence and Corvallis 3 years ago, I use to get a lot of kids in their big truck honking or yelling at me on my ride — particularly in the winter…

  • Rivers still rising

So I’ve taken to keeping an eye on the Luckiamute River near Suver, OR (http://ahps2.wrh.noaa.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=pqr&gage=suvo3&view=1,1,1,1,1,1).  Hwy 99 crosses this river in a low spot and I’ve been watching this river go up and up and up.  Fortunately, I don’t think I’m going to see this cover the road.  It might flood just about everything else…

  • Cycling in the rain

Its still storming and raining here in Oregon.  Today was great.  This morning, I road into work (25 miles) and battled with wind all the way in.  Fortunately, this is what I wanted today.  However, coming home — the wind was gusting up to 35 mph with constant 13-15 mph wind…I was fast.  25 miles…

  • Icy in Oregon

Well, you can definitely tell that its winter. On Thursday, when I rode my bike to work, it was 16 degrees at my house and in single digits over the course of my ride on the highway. When I got to work, I was frozen over — my eyelashes, eye brows, gloves, etc. It was…

  • What are they thinking!?

This is definitely going to be one of those venting type of posts. I was enjoying myself — riding my bike in this morning in the cold morning air and between Independence and Corvallis — I was having a great morning. Then, I got to a 3/4 mile stretch right after the Luckiamute River bridge,…
