Enough with the rain already
Living in Oregon, I’m all for a little rain but at the end of January, we’ve gotten almost a foot of rain in Salem. A lot you say — ha, thank goodness I don’t live in Astoria. We may get an inch of rain in a day — they get 3 and 70 mile hour…

Goofy grin
I’m not sure what I completely think about being one of the faces of Oregon State University (http://oregonstate.edu/home/stories/terry_reese.html), but what a goofy grin. Actually, its nice bit of recognition by my university community and at least they let me wear my beanie in the picture. 🙂 –Terry

Openning the floodgates
It was only a matter of time…My 16 month old, Nathan, has taken his time hitting a number of milestones, partly because we have let him. Well, since November I guess, my wife and I have pretty much been insisting that he start to try and talk to us — either using hand signs or…

Going to Midwinter….
What a drive into the Portland Airport this morning. Geez, this morning we got something like an 1/4 inch of rain so the highways heading out of Independence was flooded all the way to I-5 (not unpassible, but lots of high water). Then, I get to Portland and because of 2 accidents, am only able…

Hwy 99 crosses this river in a low spot and I’ve been watching this river go up and up and up. Fortunately, I don’t think I’m going to see this cover the road. It might flood just about everything else…

Cycling in the rain
Its still storming and raining here in Oregon. Today was great. This morning, I road into work (25 miles) and battled with wind all the way in. Fortunately, this is what I wanted today. However, coming home — the wind was gusting up to 35 mph with constant 13-15 mph wind…I was fast. 25 miles…

Speaking of flooding
Speaking of flooding, I just finished sheparding a new digital collection — a set of aerial obliques of the 1964 Corvallis flood. The interface is still rough, but the collection can be accessed at: Rising Waters: the 1964 Corvallis Flood. –Terry

Floating down the Willamette River?
One of the things that Oregon has traditionally been famous for is her rainy winters. However, to visit over the past four or so years, you really wouldn’t think that the reputation was deserved. In fact, we haven’t had our last good flooding since 1996. Well, who doggie, we are making up for it this…
